Lambent Vision - LED / Solid State Lighting Glossary:

CCT- Correlated Color Temperature is measured in Kelvin (K). The actual color of the lamp is called the color temperature.

CFL - Compact Fluorescent Lamp. Are designed to be a direct replacement for incandescent bulbs. CFLs do contain mercury and require very careful disposal, especially if they break and release harmful mercury vapors into the air. Do not throw away with the normal house hold trash.

 Lumen- Is a measure of light. A lumen is equal to 1 foot candle of light falling on 1square foot of area.

LED Driver- A power supply that provides constant current or constant voltage to the light engine in order to maintain a constant luminous output.

LED Light Engine-  Is the light producing portion of a light fixture and it contains an array of individual LED's mounted in configuration to disperse light in a designed pattern.

LED Luminary-  A complete high efficiency lighting unit consisting of a light engine assembly ,a driver and a diffuser. The marketing name for this fixture is SSL solid state luminary
 

Light Emitting Diode (LED) - Is a small electronic device that illuminates when power is applied. Its sole function is to provide light.  Heat is a by product of this function. The opposite of an incandescent bulb. (In an incandesent bulb, heat is the primary function and light is the by product)

Input Power- The actual total power used by all components of the light fixture during its operation. It is measured in watts.
